AWE at CRI: Specially-Abled Artist Series Frida Kahlo

AWE at CRI:Specially-Abled Artist Series-Frida Kahlo

Mariya suggested we do an art class on Frida Kahlo. This led me to look at other artists who had overcome disabilities or created art, despite disabilities. Our last class, we covered Vincent VanGogh-and were inspired by his painting - Starry Night. I didn’t mention it before, but He had temporal lobe epilepsy and bi-polar disorder.

Frida Kahlo- July Class – Collage Portrait:  Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico. She had Polio, and it was found later that her father had Spina Bifida, to which Frida had this congenital anomaly. On top of that, she was in a tragic accident, that resulted her to be contained in many body casts, to be bedridden off and on, and to be in much pain.
